The room measures 13.5 x 24 with a nine foot ceiling and is located in the basement level adjacent to a family/game room/wet bar area. Most of the wall area consists of insulated concrete form walls and the remainder are insulated stud walls. All walls as well as the insulated ceiling were drywalled and finished.
Deep red carpet and coordinating custom draperies and fabric wallcoverings combine with painted custom moldings and metallic gold-finished fluted columns for a classic theatre look. The decorative ceiling features recessed lighting, hidden rope accent lighting, and a red with gold-leaf paint technique that highlights the design. The projector is housed in a dropped box that is shaped to mirror the ceiling design along the backside and is drywalled and painted to match. It is precisely aligned to the screen to avoid having to use any digital keystoning, has a hidden hollow space above to allow for air movement, and has conduit run to it for any future wiring needs.
The theatre setup is geared for a 16x9 wide screen format ratio and includes a 119-inch Da-Lite high contrast Da-Mat screen (built into the wall with custom trimwork surrounding it), Sony VPL-HS20 projector, Pioneer DVR-57H with Tivo, X-box, and 7.1 surround RBH in-wall speaker system with a 350 watt powered subwoofer hidden in a compartment behind the fabric walls. The staggered La-Z Boy theatre lounger seating accommodates eight and has separately-powered bass shakers installed in each for tactile bass effects. Lights and components can be remotely controlled by the home automation system. The doorway features a computer-controlled animated marquee that can hold up to 75 pre-programmed or user-programmed text and graphics.
